Use CSV import for plain-text snippets exported from a spreadsheet or another text expander. For a library exported by Tapiri itself, use Import Library to preserve richer snippet definitions.

Prepare a small sample

Save a comma-separated, UTF-8 CSV file. Content is required; name and abbreviation are optional. For example:

abbreviation,snippet,label
;thanks,Thanks for your help.,Thank-you reply
;hours,Our office is open Monday to Friday.,Office hours

Let your spreadsheet’s CSV exporter handle commas, quotation marks, and multiline cells. Tapiri accepts files up to 16 MB. Try a small sample before importing a large collection.

Map the columns

  1. Finish any open snippet draft.
  2. Choose File → Import CSV and select the file.
  3. Turn on First row is a header if the first row contains column names.
  4. Map Content to the column holding the snippet text.
  5. Map Abbreviation and Name when those columns exist; otherwise select None.
  6. Choose Review Rows.

Missing names use the abbreviation or a generated row name. Check the displayed column labels to make sure the mapping matches your file.

Review what will be added

Inspect each row’s text and warnings. Invalid rows cannot be selected. Duplicates begin unselected, so review them before deliberately adding another copy. Unmapped columns are listed as not imported.

Use Back to Mapping if the wrong column is being treated as content. When the selection is correct, choose Import Selected Rows.

Only selected valid rows are added, and they appear in All Snippets with no folder assigned. Existing snippets are never replaced by CSV import.

Check and organize the results

Open All Snippets, select a few imported snippets, and compare their saved text with the source. Check abbreviations for overlap before using them. Assign folders, tags, and favorites as needed.

CSV imports literal plain text. Formatting, images, macros, fill-ins, scripts, app rules, and groups are not converted. A macro from another app may appear as ordinary characters in the imported content.

Rebuild changing values with Tapiri’s fill-in fields or dynamic blocks, then preview and save the updated snippet.
